Absolutely it would (as would be the case with whatever composition of your breakfast or indeed any meal), which is why I said your portion sizes need to be in check. Energy balance will still determine weight loss (or gain).

The thing here is that if your body is better primed to metabolise fatty acids from early on in the day, there will be a greater percentage of these utilised for energy in the waking hours (as opposed to glucose) so with a calorie deficit, a greater percentage of your deficit will be made up from (body)fat.

But when I come home pissed, nothing better than gluten free rice krispies with almond milk, lines the stomach so Im not fucked in the morning

stay away from things like soy milk, no good for men

If you want to loose fat, stay off the bread and pasta, no proper trainer eats these.

If your gonna do a 3 hour workout or marathon etc then ok, have the pasta, but make sure its wholemeal, defo no white pasta which 99% restaurants sell, its the cheapest crap.

Cereals contain too much sugar also watch of for muesli as these too can contain this with dried fruit, which is ok, but if you want to fat strip it isn't.

Cut the white carbs and the sugar and you will loose weight, try for 2 to 3 weeks and be hardcore

Drink 3 to 4 litres of water a day, no other drinks, it works out like 6 to 8 bottos of 50cl bottles of water, which is nothing.

If what you are suggesting would be true, wouldn't the body utilise the fatty acids just ingested instead of diving into the stores? I believe it would.

ATI,

On a day that I am excerising I have Porridge with Fruit and full fat yoghurt or Muesli and Almond Milk with full fat yoghurt.

On a recovery day or the morning after a heavy race or boot camp session I have Scrambled Egg and Salmon.
A vegetable omelette
or one of my favourites a fruit Omelette. (Sounds gross but is delicious, banana, handful of blackberries, finish it off under the grill with a dusting of cinnamon)

It's not been conclusively proven or disproven.

But there are a few reports which suggest it. e.g.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8862476 - shows increased oxidation of the primary macronutrient consumed at breakfast

http://www.nature.com/ijo/journal/v34/n11/full/ijo201063a.html - study done on mice which suggests metabolic flexibility retained with a higher fat breakfast

Of course, this doesn't mean you can over-consume calories just because you ate a higher-fat breakfast. Overall calories still need to be in check, but it's likely you'll oxidise more fat instead of glucose (derived from carbs or protein), and weight loss will consist of a greater % of bodyfat vs muscle. Over time this would add up.

Incidentally I'm not suggesting a high fat diet for weight loss, and never would do so. Just that a relatively higher fat lower carb breakfast is most likely a good idea for the sedentary and/or overweight population.

Yes. IMHO there should be a nutrition speciality within medicine.

Your claims did sound a bit pseudo-scientific though. Has the below been proven?

You wouldn't go to a doctor though for nutritional advice would you? You'd go to a dietician (failing that a nutritionist, but this isn't the same thing at all). Doctors learn very little about nutrition during their studies.

I've posted before that most of my info comes from sports scientists and dieticians, who have a vested interest in keeping their athletes performing at a high level while staying healthy and at a favourable body composition. This info can also be applied to the general non-training population (scaled back appropriately of course).

Mainstream medical advice and policy is based on keeping people alive, not necessarily at the peak of health or at their preferred bodyweight/composition, just to achieve the minimum to keep us functioning.
